What was Skill India Mission? Know more about it

About the Skill India Mission:-

Skill India is an initiative which was launched in our country by the Prime Minister of our country, Narendra Modi. The initiative of Skill India was launched on 15th July, 2015. This scheme planning and Implementation was done by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. This brilliant mission of Skill India was launched by the prime minister with a primary goal of training youth about the different Hard skills and elevating their chances of getting employed. Considering the primary goal, it was important to launch some initiatives too.

The initiative launched under this scheme of Skill India were:-

  1. National Skill Development Mission.
  2. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana
  3. Skill Loan Scheme
  4. Rural India Scheme
  5. National Policy of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

Aims and Objectives of this scheme:-

There were many aims and objectives which were kept in mind to plan and implement the scheme of Skill India which are written below:-

  1. To make youngster educated about the in-demand skill:- The skill industry is dynamic in nature. With change in time and development the skills change. The skills which were needed some decades earlier are today less in trend and demand. Now we see a rise in computer and technology related skills. Most of the youngsters are not educated about the demand of the in-demand skill. This mission helped them to recognize what skills are in trend today and train them as well.
  2. Reducing the poverty:- In a country like India which is a developing one, it was important for the government to reduce the poverty and this initiative trained the youth about skills according to their potential and this helped in reducing the poverty somewhere.
  3. Indian Business competitive:- When the employees who are working in a company are well trained in their work there are chances of the company to get more successful. The aim of training youth about skills helped the companies and Indian business to become more competitive.
  4. To train relevant skills:- as written earlier this mission helped them to train a relevant skill and get into a job in that niche. With time, the trendy and demand skills changes with time. We need to focus on improving the quality of skilled labor who are going to work in a business.
  5. More inclined towards the people skills:- Just having a degree is not enough to make the youth employable. There are skills which need to be taught not in a theory basis but also practical basis. Practical knowledge and implication of skills are very important to increase the quality of skills in youth.
  6. To make them use job opportunity:- Most of the time, it is seen that the job requirements do not match with what the candidate actually possess, this is why it is an essential training for the youth which benefitted them in getting good jobs and getting eligible to get the job.
  7. To make Rural India Skilled:- There were many initiatives taken by the government of India to make more candidates involved who are belonging to the rural area of the government. So that their potential do not get wasted and they can explore multiple options of skills. There were used to be only few options in such rural area.

Progress and development:-

The mission by the government of the country, Skill India have done various progress in our country and here below are some written are some progresses made by the scheme:-

  1. There was a research which was conducted by the NSDC which is National Skill Development Council which indicates that according to the report there will be a need of 12 crores of skilled people by 2022 in 24 sectors of the country.
  2. India’s first skill India International center was established in Bhubaneshwar which aimed to train youngsters on skills which are in demand and increasing their opportunities in getting the job.
  3. Oracle announced in 2016 that they will built a campus in Bengaluru which have an aim to train more than million students every year to make youth know the important computer technical skills which are in demand today more.
  4. Japan also got into this mission which helped in setting six institutes with an aim to train 30,000 youngsters in teaching manufacturing skills to the young people. This was also for rural India. In summers of 2017, it established Gujarat, Karnataka and Rajasthan.
  5. More participation of women:- This encouraged that more females will get participation in the corporate sector, as seen from the reports that women are now participating more in these programs, even 59% of rural women are getting the benefit of the skill India Mission. And in the second phase, 68% of women are getting the benefit of this scheme and are getting skilled.
  6. SANKALP program have been launched by the government which benefitted 350 million Indian youth to get skilled. This helped them in getting market relevance skills in the country. Government also set up 100 International Skills center which helped in getting trained youth about the foreign Language so that they can get more jobs abroad and connect them with world through globalization.

Way Forward:-

There are many ways of getting reform the skill India mission and here written some of these below:-

  1. Reforming education system:- Our schools and colleges have so much focused on various aspects which are useful undoubtedly but it’s not enough to make youth employable. There is a need to tell them the importance of skills basically hard skills. Schools can play a huge part, by less focusing on exams and marks but more on the productivity and abilities of youth. So introduction of hard skills are very important in school level of child and telling them how to do business in a country. A basic literacy of business and hard skills by offering courses can be the game changer for the students according to their potential and interests.
  2. Government Programs:- Government can encourage the youth to skill train through great marketing campaign either launching apps, or giving certifications to those who are trained well. Some strategy adoptions can increase participation of youth.
