About The National Health Mission:-
The National Health Mission by government was launched in 12th April, 2005. This mission is categorized into two parts:- National Rural Health Mission and National Urban Health Mission. This scheme is getting extended in 2018, and then to March 2020. This National Health Mission is a government scheme which was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare. This scheme was launched by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and by health minister of that time, Anbu Mani. This scheme is for the 18 states which were detected having weak public health indicators. Under this scheme the states who are located in North Eastern part of our country and states like Jammu and Kashmir and Himanchal Pradesh are given more focus.
Under this National Health Mission various factors and pillars in a place which influence the health of the citizen were taken in mind. There elements were water, sanitation, education, nutrition and social and gender equality.
Aims and Objectives:-
The National Health mission which was launched by Manmohan Singh in 2005, is still working on a large basis. There were various aims and objectives which were kept in mind while launching this mission. These aims and objectives are written below:-
- Reduction in Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality rate:- The aim of this National Health Mission is to reduce the cases of infants dying after birth and the death of mothers after delivery. This stagnate the growth of the people and make them loose hope. This was an important aim of the National Health Mission.
- Availability:- This National Health Mission is a Mission launched by the government which helped people of rural and urban area available the basic elements of maintaining health. Improving the sectors of women health, children health, water Sanitation and Hygiene, Immunization and Nutrition too.
- Prevention:- This mission was launched with also an objective of reducing the risks of communicable and non-communicable diseases and also preventing general people from such diseases. Also the diseases which are locally endemic in type.
- Access to Healthcare:- This National Health Mission scheme helped in giving the general public an access to Healthcare on a primary and basic way which is very important for general public especially women and children.
- Demographic Balance:- This scheme was implemented keeping in mind the common people like pregnant mothers and infants who do need proper healthcare so that there will be less cases of Infant and mothers Mortality rate.
- Promotion Health and Hygiene:- When government launch such schemes this help to promote the health and hygiene among common people especially poor living in rural and urban areas. This helps in promoting people getting literate about these healthy tips. Also letting them know about the value of proper nutrition in children.
- Raising Standard of Living:- This scheme had this objective of making people more accessible to health infrastructure also letting them to raise their standards of living so that the general public get less diseases and contribute to the economy while staying healthy and productive.
Progress Report between 2020 and 2022:-
- According to the research, there were 150 Thousand Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centers in the country.
- Many health workers were trained under this mission till 31st March, 2021 which were about 1, 24,000 approx. Multi-Purpose Workers, 26,000 above Nurse workers and 26,000 National Health Medical officers for the non-communicable diseases.
- The infant mortality rate all round in India in year 2015 is 37 and in 2019 it declined to 30 per thousand live births.
- The Maternal Mortality Rate all round India in year 2015-2017 was 8.1 and in 2016-2018 it was 7.3.
- A mission like Indradhanush 3.0 was conducted in year feb 2021 to march 2021 which identified 250 districts in all states also including the Union Territories.
- According to the research, a total of 6.58 crores of Vaccine for Rota Virus was administered in all states and Union Territories of the country and Around 204.06 Lakhs vaccines like PCV were done in states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Himanchal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
- During the year of 2020 and 2021, 30 additional medical Mobile units were established.
- Kayakalp Scheme was launched to award the best public health facility in year 2020-2021.
- Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program was launched under this National Health Mission by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in year 2016 which is about providing dialysis facilities to people in all the districts. This scheme resulted in the establishment of 910 Dialysis centers and deployed more than 5000 machines.
- Under this scheme a mission and scheme was launched which was National Tuberculosis Elimination Programmes. This regulated the machines and drugs which are for the treatment of the patients who are suffering with Tuberculosis.
Way Forward:-
The National health mission was implemented by the early government which is still working on the ground level. Here are some suggestions which can be launched by the government, to improve the scheme and accelerating the effects of the scheme of common public faster and positively. There are written below:-
- Educating the poor people about health and hygiene and improving the conditions of slums in all around the country. Educating Volunteering can be done by students, NGOs also the civil servants on ground. And improving the hygiene conditions of urban slums is very important for people.
- Sanitation Facilities:- There should be a check on the areas who are today too not having proper sanitation which needs to be improved by the government and it is important for people to stay away from various disease and also cleaning the environment.
- Checking doctors and health workers:- There should be a check and record of the healthcare workers especially at government hospitals who are treating the poor people. Various methods should be conducted to check are they doing the work properly and keeping a check on what medicines they are giving to the common people who have no understanding regarding it.
