About The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Campaign:-

The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a campaign launched by the government of India. This campaign was started from 2015 which is basically about empowering the women and the girl child as they are the most vulnerable in mostly all parts of the country and this campaign was launched basically to make people realize how important is the girl child and also emphasizing on what we can do to empower these children so that they can become independent and strong. As this campaign Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Translate as Save Daughter, Educate Daughter.

In many parts of our country there was an ideology prevalent that used to consider girl as inferior. There were cases of Female foeticide a lot, in some areas it impacted so much that there were no women to marry sons. These campaigns were launched to make people aware, educate them that there should be no problem if a girl child is born. Earlier it was also common that these girls were not allowed to go to the schools and mostly make them learn the household works as they will be married later. With the help of this scheme and campaigns, there is an awareness created among people to treat their all children equally without any discrimination based on gender. As for the growth and development of the country, it is very crucial if the girls will also contribute to the economy and the GDP too. This scheme was targeted in states which are vulnerable for the girl childlike Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and  Rajasthan etc.

Aims and Objective:- There were many reasons why this campaign was launched officially by the government and many schemes were launched under it for the women empowerment and making girls stronger. These aims are written below:-

  1. To improve the child sex-ratio of the country and make it safer for the girl child.
  2. To make women more empowered and promoting equal treatment of both males and females without any discrimination.
  3. Preventing girls from gender based bias and elimination of female foeticide.
  4. Ensuring the protection of the girl child living in the country and encouraging the survival rates.
  5. Encouraging people to educate these girl children too. ‘

This scheme is categorized Under three-components:-

These three components are written below:-

  1. Advocacy campaign were launched which helped in addressing some issues like Child Sex Ratio.
  2. Some interventions were also panned in the districts which have a critical treatment for a girl child across the country.
  3. An initiative of a financial scheme was also launched by the government which is Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, which will help the parents and the married couple to build a fund for their girl child.

Key beneficiaries under this scheme:-

Under the scheme of Beti Bachao Beti padhao, government divided beneficiaries into three groups and categories, which are written below:-

  1. Primary segments:- This is a group of young and the couples who are newly married and the mothers who are lactating and pregnant and parents too.
  2. Secondary Segments:- Under this group, it consist of the youth, adolescents, doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and diagnostic centers.
  3. Tertiary Segments:- This group includes, officials, PRI, frontline workers, religious leaders and the organizations, media, medical association, industry associations etc.

Under this schemes, many initiatives were taken by the government keeping the primary goal in checklist. These are written below are some of the sub-schemes under this mission of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. They are:-

  1. Digital Guddi-Gudda Program:- This as the name suggests was scheme launched digitally on a platform which is helpful in eradicating the gender disparities in the birth rates and this also provides an information of all the schemes which are being launched by the government and hence to protect the girl child.
  2. Udaan:- This was an initiative launched by the government to give girl child an opportunities to grow in their career and in their professional lives too. Whichever field they want to choose.
  3. My Aim My Target Campaign:- This is an initiative launched by the government which helped in encouraging students girls to perform well in their academic fields.

Progress:-

There were many steps taken by the government since 2015, to improve the situation of girl child in the country and promoting the principles of feminism and equality. Some of these are a progress report of this campaign and the initiatives launched under the beti bachao, beti padhao mission. These are:-

  1. There in an improvement shown in SRB index which is Sex Ratio at Birth which was 918 in 2014-2015 and 934 in 2019-2020. Under this some districts were chosen as they were having low rate.
  2. Gross Enrollment Ratio of girls in also improved. This was 77.45 in 2014 to 2015 and in 2019 to 2020 it is increased to 81.32. This shows that now people are not discriminating a lot between the significance of education in the girl and the boy child.
  3. There were also many toilet been made in school so that girls students don’t face any problem while studying which was an important aspect to improve. The rate of 2014-2015 was 91 percent and in 2019 to 2020 it was 95%.
  4. Improvement in the attitudes of people is an important progress to count, as making them realize the importance of girl child and educating her was a big deal.

Way forward:-

Yes, there have been a lot of improvement in this campaign of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, But there is a long way to go ahead and eradicate this problem from the root.

  1. Nukad Natak in the districts should be promoted. Films are the best way to influence people subconsciously.
  2. Keeping a check on hospitals that they are not using the illegal means to earn money.
  3. Promoting education in girl child by giving them awards and skill training the girl child is also important.

Some methods to change people and persuade them should be adopted and implemented on ground.
