About the Jal Jeevan Mission:-
Jal Jeevan Mission (translated:- Water to every household) is a government scheme launched by the prime minister of our country, Shree Narendra Modi. Jal Jeevan Mission is a Mission launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. This mission was first announced by our Finance Minister of country, Nirmala Sitaraman in 2019 Union budget and got implemented on ground among people in year 2019 only. The Ministry of Jal Jeevan mission is launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Under this mission of Jal Jeevan the primary goal was to provide houses with clean Tap water also clean water, to each and every household. This is not only for the rural part of the country but also the urban part of the country. The key person under this mission was Rajeev Chandrasekhar who is minister of state for Jal Shakti.
Aims and Objectives of Jal Jeevan Mission:-
Here are some of the aims and objectives of the above government scheme or mission which Jal Jeevan Mission is written below:-
- Availability:- The Jal Jeevan Mission is a mission to provide water to every household in rural areas who suffers with the lack of water availability in some areas of India including both rural areas and urban areas of the country.
- Social Welfare:- This is an important aspect of human life that is water. So availability of water is important for people living in such areas and also to provide them with basic necessity of life so that they can be more productive for the country.
- Women Empowerment:- In most of the places where there is lack of water it is seen that males go out to work and women need to travel to long places just to fill water and take it to their homes covering a long distance which resulted in the increase of household chores and more inconvenience to them. They can give the extra time and save time and give it something else important.
- Hygiene:- Focusing on health of people who were not getting proper water facilities this scheme focused on providing clean and safe drinking water to the people living in that conditions. This save children especially and women from various diseases which they might be on drinking dirty and impure water.
- Water to not only homes but also tap water connection to some other places like Schools, Healthcare places, GP building, wellness centers etc so that all these important place don’t suffer with water shortage and inconvenience related to water and avoiding the result of it being an effect of some problems.
- Advantage to the Marginalized section of the society:- This is a scheme which was launched by the government of the country which is Jal Jeevan mission which targeted those villages and rural areas where there are more people of SC and ST caste groups so that to promote development among them and provide them with the basic important thing of life which is water.
Progress of this Jal Jeevan Mission:-
Jal Jeevan Mission is a Mission which was launched by the central government in 2019 with the partnership of state government to make available water in taps to each household and important centers. This Jal Jeevan mission is a successful scheme is doing and implementing that scheme with the support of central government.
According to the report by official ministry of this department, it have been found that in year 2019, the percentage of rural household having this privilege were 16.8% which is just 3.23 crores of people. This was too low, after this scheme implementation of ground well, this have been found that till 30 January 2024, The number of total household who are taking it’s benefit are 19.27 Crores of rural households.
Under this mission of Jal Jeevan Mission, priority is given to the marginalized section of societies to get the availability of water which is about most of the villages and places selected under this are those places where there are more number of people who are belonging of the Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes sections of society so that they will also get enough important resources of life that is water.
Some states have seen a good coverage of this mission these are Gujarat, Telangana, Haryana, Goa and Punjab and Union territories like Andaman and Nicobar Island, Daman and Diu, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Puducherry. This is an administrative achievement of these states who have now this facility most coverage.
Way forward:-
There are many more developments which can the combined efforts of government and civil servants can make. So that some required steps for water preservation can be taken like Environment friendly ways of water conservation should be promoted like Water harvesting among people who are building new household and telling them it’s importance is very crucial.
Giving proper facilities to every households of water is a very important thing to do to raise standards of living of people and helping them to come out of the Absolute poverty. So this step of giving them these basic facility is thoughtful and a much needed step.
This is important to check in all the states about how many households are getting this benefit, as it should be kept in mind that which states have performed low in implementing these schemes on ground and it is important to address their problem too while implementing it on ground.
Government both state and center needs to work as partners for the successful implementation of such schemes with no fight and objections a lot which may end in suffering of people of the country. Administration should be properly trained to implement this mission effectively and efficiently, also can increase the infrastructure related to this too. Like public toilets, water taps, storage facilities and distribution networks. This infrastructure will promote in making this scheme more significant for the public of the country.
