The digital India mission was launched by the government of India to make a powerful setup online which makes the system more convenient. This initiative was launched on 1st July 2015 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology and Ministry of Finance.
The notable contributions of people like Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who is the minister of Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship and Ashwini Vaishnava, who is minister in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was involved in this scheme. This scheme uses various other initiatives schemes like Bharat Net, Make in India, Startup India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat etc.
Aims and Objectives of digital India:-
There are many reasons why digital India was launched and here written are some of its aims and objectives:-
- High speed Internet availability to everyone.
- To make cyber space safer and secure.
- To giving empowerment to people and their participation in digital and financial space.
- To make people more digital literate.
- To make people use of digital available features and products.
- To make it more convenient and less dependence of physical documents.
- To make the transaction easy and cashless anytime and anywhere.
- To make the business culture easier.
- To make it more transparent and secure.
- To make people more technologically aware and adopting new methods.
Progress of Digital India:-
There are many initiatives launched by the ministries with a basic objective of making the whole process more digitalized. Here are some of it’s initiatives:-
- Digital attendance: – Biometric system for government employees. This system is basically to record the attendance of government employees on a real-time basis.
- E-Hospital Application:- There are many services which this specific provision have like registering online, online reports, appointment and payment of fees online. This is a brilliant way to connect doctors with patients and hospitals.
- Swatch Bharat Mission Mobile App:- During the launch and announcement of Swatch Bharat Mission, Government made a dedicated application for this initiative. This encouraged people to participate more and made updation.
- E sign Framework:- This is a set-up where citizens can digitally sign any document online using aadhar authentication.
- Digital Locker:- Digital locker is a safe space for all the citizens of the country to record their important documents in it. For an example Aadhar Card, Pan Card, passport, Driving licenses, 10th and 12th marksheet, PAN card, Degree certifications and other such documents which are important basic documents to do any job or to take facilities provided by the government.
- E- Cabinet:- In Andhra Pradesh this happened first time where the cabinet member hold a meeting online virtually without paper and used the application E-cabinet.
- E-panta:- The Andhra Pradesh company launched this application to know about the details of crops, to analyze the crop pattern of Andhra Pradesh online and to capture the crops in the state. The feature of this application was unique as it collect digital clear proof which can be beneficial in take of insurance if there is any crop damage or taking loans by bank evidence.
- E-pathshalas:- this is an initiative with collaboration of NCERT, this is an online resources which provided students with all the learning materials like textbooks, audios and videos. This was an important step considering the needs of students. This have a website and also an application.
- BHIM:- Bharat Interface of money or BHIM is an initiative which today is gaining attention of foreigners too not because it’s convenient ways but because how many people are using this method. This have made the transaction methods so easy and simple with the use of digital systems like UPI.
- Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Shaksharta Abhiyan:- This project was launched to make citizens digitally aware. This have trained 6 crores students about the digital initiatives and made them aware digitally.
Today’s situation and facts regarding the digital India scheme:-
There are many reforms which digital india did, first and most important was to make UPI which is so convenient today to use and which make the whole system liberal for youths. This provide a sense of ease to do something of their own and learning more skills through some other programs launched by government.
- It is expected that India will become a 10 dollar trillion economy by the coming year as expected of 2030.
- There is a rise in FinTech sector of India which involved digital currency and technological advancements.
- A little drop in corruption as digitalized world made it more transparent. India have performed well in transparency index.
- Travel and hospitality sector faced a rise and an advantage of the missions like Digital India as travelling is getting so popular nowadays among the coming generations.
- India’s e-commerce market seen a growth. It is now in second number when it comes to internet market in the world.
Way Forward:-
- Making people more digitalized by training them especially those who are living in rural areas about the convenience digital systems have.
- Improving the speed of WI-FIs and Internet as in comparison with some other countries it is quite low.
- Making people to install all those applications which are for their convenience and branding them well as this will help the common public to know about the initiatives and use them in their daily lives.
- Digital world rise is giving a threat of rise in the digital crimes too, so it’s important to grow digitally but to fight with scammers and criminals, it’s equally important to encourage young students to get into the field of cybersecurity and training the old aged people and students and children about the threats there are online which they can avoid.
- More applications for particularly the students should be made and encouraged to use like to train them skills, to just train them regarding a subject which they are enthusiastic about and there should be some applications related to environment which encourage public to do something for environment too.
