About the Organization –

St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK), established in 2017, upholds a five-century Jesuit tradition of excellence in education. Offering diverse undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across disciplines such as Law, Commerce, Management, English, and Economics, SXUK has rapidly grown into a hub of academic and professional excellence. Xavier Law School (XLS), a constituent of the university founded in 2019, furthers this vision through integrated law programs, LL.M. specializations, and doctoral research, enriched by facilities like the Moot Court Hall, Legal Aid Clinic, and dedicated student societies.

Xavier Law School proudly presents Udgam 2025 – Chapter One, a two-day National Workshop on “Honour Culture & Crimes”, scheduled for 16th & 17th October, 2025. The event aims to spark critical dialogue, artistic expression, and intellectual engagement around one of the most pressing socio-legal issues of our times.

About the Workshop

The two-day National Workshop on Honour Culture & Crimes will feature distinguished speakers and panelists from law, media, and civil society. Participants will not only gain valuable insights through symposiums and panel discussions but also enjoy vibrant cultural performances in theatre, music, and dance that bring the theme to life. With valuable prizes, certificates, and internship opportunities on offer, the workshop promises a meaningful learning experience enriched with creativity and engagement.

Day 1 – Ishaan (16th October, 2025)

Theme – “Honour vs. Morality – The Role of Law, Society, and Institutions in Addressing Honour Culture & Crimes.”

  • Inaugural Ceremonyunveiling of the1st Edition of Udgam’s Annual Memoir “Manthan”.
  • Keynote Presentation on the Central Theme of the Day.
  • Symposium –Eminent personalities from various socio-legal fields shall deliberate on aspects related to the issue in focus.
  • Musical Presentations – featuring original song compositions by ‘Dhvani’, the Cultural Troupe of Xavier Law School.

Day 2 – Digant (17th October, 2025)

Theme“Honour Behind the Screen: The Power of Art & Media in Shaping Social Conscience”

  • ‘Panchajanya’ The UDGAM 2025 Quiz
  • ‘Bekas Beeti’ – A Theatrical Presentation to be a Musical Re-Enactment of “Laila Majnu”, the popular folklore as has been shown in the 2007 Film ‘Aaja Nachle’.
  • Plenary Presentation on the Central Theme of the Day.
  • Panel Discussion –featuring guests from various fields like Journalism & Filmmaking.
  • Valedictory Ceremony & Prize Distribution

The greatest highlight of Udgam 2025 will be the presence of Mr. Sabyasachi Chakraborty as the Special Guest in the Valedictory Ceremony. An eminent figure in Indian theatre and cinema, Sabyasachi sir is loved nationwide for his legendary portrayal of Feluda and his remarkable versatility across film, television, and stage. With a career spanning more than four decades, he represents the intersection of intellect, charisma, and artistic depth.

The UDGAM Award for the Best Insight published in Manthan.

1st & 2nd Prizes for the teams in the Panchajanya Quiz along with the Synergy Award.
